Why It Matters in SMA

Most Starlink Installs in San Miguel are not done with your home in mind.

Generic installers treat your roof like any other roof. But colonial homes in SMA have unique constraints — thick cantera walls, parapets, INAH visual rules, and altitude-driven weather — that require an installer who actually understands the building. We do.

Altitude & line of sight

At 1,900m / 6,200ft, SMA has clear sky most days — but a poorly placed dish hits parapets, cupolas, or neighboring rooftops. We test angles before we drill.

Cantera and 60cm walls

Wi-Fi does not pass through thick colonial walls. Router placement is part of the job — not an afterthought. Mesh recommended when needed.

Grounding for rainy-season storms

Jun–Oct thunderstorms in central Mexico are no joke. We ground the mast properly and add surge protection so one strike does not cost you the dish.

Discretion on colonial facades

Parapet mounts and hidden cable runs keep the dish out of sight from the street — and out of trouble with HOA visual guidelines.

Mounting Options

The Right Mount for Your Home

Most SMA homes have a clearly best option. We will tell you which one — for free — before quoting the install.

Parapet Mount — Starlink installation in San Miguel de Allende Most common

Parapet Mount

Bolts to the inside of your azotea parapet wall. Dish stays invisible from street level. The default choice for Centro and most colonial homes.

Side-of-Wall Mount — Starlink installation in San Miguel de Allende Tight spaces

Side-of-Wall Mount

Attaches to an exterior wall with a short standoff arm. Works when the parapet is too low or angled wrong. Always painted to match.

Pole Mount — Starlink installation in San Miguel de Allende Obstructed sites

Pole Mount

Free-standing mast on the azotea, anchored in concrete. Lifts the dish above cupolas, water tanks, or neighboring trees blocking line of sight.

Azotea Ground Mount — Starlink installation in San Miguel de Allende Flat roofs

Azotea Ground Mount

Ballasted base — no drilling required when the roof membrane cannot be penetrated. Useful for waterproofed terraces and rented homes.

Frequently Asked

Starlink Installation FAQ

Are you officially registered Starlink installers?

Yes. We are registered with Starlink and follow their published install guidelines. That registration is what lets us configure the mount, grounding, and activation correctly the first time.

Does Starlink work in San Miguel de Allende?

Yes. SMA has excellent Starlink coverage and over 300 days of clear sky a year. The only thing that breaks it is poor line of sight — which is why we test angles on-site before we drill anything.

How long does a Starlink installation take?

Most homes are 3–5 hours from arrival to speed test. Complex cable routes through thick cantera or multi-level homes can push to a full day. We give you an exact timeline in the written quote.

Where do you mount the dish on a colonial home?

Whenever possible, on the inside of the azotea parapet — invisible from street level and HOA-friendly. If the parapet is too low or angled wrong, we use a pole mount or side-of-wall mount. We always show you the location before drilling.

How do you hide the cable in a thick colonial wall?

Several options. Where possible, we route the cable down a beam recess, behind crown molding, or under tile. When the cable must show, we use color-matched conduit. We never run a bare cable across a finished wall.

Do I need to buy the Starlink kit before you come?

Not necessarily. We can advise on which Starlink generation makes sense for your home (Standard, Mini, or Performance), and we can install whether you have the kit already or buy it after the site check.

What about grounding and surge protection?

We ground the mast to a dedicated rod or to an existing grounding point per Mexican electrical standards, and we install a surge protector at the router. Central Mexico thunderstorms are real — this is not optional on our installs.

Will Wi-Fi reach through thick cantera walls?

Honestly, not always — colonial walls are 30–60cm thick and Wi-Fi loses a lot of signal through stone. Part of our job is recommending router placement, and we advise mesh nodes when needed so every room gets coverage.

Can you install Starlink in Centro Histórico?

Yes. Centro installs require extra discretion because of INAH visual rules — we use parapet mounts and hidden cable routes specifically to keep the install out of sight from the street.

Do you also handle repairs or relocations of existing Starlinks?

Yes — re-aiming a dish, moving it between properties, replacing damaged cabling, or cleaning up a previous bad install. WhatsApp us with a photo of what you have and we will tell you what is involved.
